Strong Opinions Anyone?

We introduced our unit on opinion writing with an activity involving a hot button topic: which is the better pet - dog or cat? Students lined up on opposite sides of the class based on their choice. Each student wrote a STRONG opinion statement to convince the teachers that their animal was the best choice. Can you tell which side was for cat, and which side was for dog? Ask your child which side had the most effective statements.

During science lab last week, each of our students played the part of a specific organism (such as a mushroom, squirrel, hawk, or worm). In a musical chairs-like activity, they had to sit in the chair that was labeled with the appropriate trophic level = producer, consumer, 2nd level consumer, or decomposer. Another great activity courtesy of Mrs. Knobbe. We are very grateful to our Foundation!
Ask you student to show you how to use the Declaration of Independence Thinglink in the links under 'Check These Out!' It is a fun tool to use in preparing for the American Revolution summative assessment (Friday 11/15).
